Compassionate Massage: Bringing the Gift of Touch to Those in Need
The benefits of compassionate massage are numerous. By the very nature and scope of practice, it is truly one of the most beautiful offerings that can be given to those living with a debilitating chronic disease or illness, or those who are nearing the end of their life in hospice care.
A compassionate massage strives to comfort, to alleviate the symptoms of pain through the use of focused touch and gentle techniques, and to provide emotional and spiritual support in times of stress. With the changing nature of disease, and the fragility of many conditions such as cancer, cardiopulmonary failure and ALS, those that provide compassionate massage must always work in concert with the client's needs and limitations, with the utmost of care and dignity.
One of the most immeasurable benefits is to allow those that are ill to connect with others, and to help them fight the feelings of isolation, despair and restlessness. A therapist, with their skilled touch, can do much to reduce distress and agitation, ground those that are disoriented and provide an avenue of communication for those that are non-verbal.
Compassionate massage is able to give the emotional and mental support that can truly help your loved one live the sunset of their years with strength and dignity.
